Hollywood legend Robert De Niro, at the ripe age of 80, has once again embraced the joys and challenges of fatherhood.
With the recent arrival of his daughter, Gia Virginia Chen De Niro, whom he shares with his partner Tiffany Chen, De Niro sheds light on the realities of parenting across different stages of life.
In a candid conversation with The Guardian, the esteemed actor shared his feelings about being a dad once more, emphasizing that while he dearly loves the role, it doesn’t come without its hardships.
“It’s consistently challenging…
But, it’s all manageable,” he remarked.
He candidly admits that Chen carries the brunt of the responsibility when it comes to their infant daughter, appreciating the support systems they have in place.
“I’m not the one doing the day-to-day tasks,” he confessed.
“I’m there for moral support for my partner.
Thankfully, we’re not alone in this.”
Delving into how his experience as a father has evolved over the years, De Niro pointed out the stark differences in parenting at various stages of his life.
From interacting with his adult children and grandchildren to engaging with his youngest ones, each relationship is unique.
“My conversations with my grown children are worlds apart from those I have with my baby or even my 11-year-old, who is already quite insightful,” he shared.
Amidst reflections at the Tribeca Festival, De Niro also touched upon his perspective on life as he ages.
Awareness of time’s passage has become more pronounced for him, influencing how he prioritizes family moments.
“You start to think about the value of time more… Every season, every chance to be with family becomes precious,” he articulated.
De Niro’s diverse brood includes Drena, 52; Raphael, 46; twins Julian and Aaron, both 27; Elliot, 24; Helen, 11; and the newest addition, baby Gia.
His reflections offer a glimpse into the life of a man who has seen tremendous success on the silver screen but finds real fulfillment in the unpredictable journey of parenthood.
