In a startling turn of events that sounds straight out of a Hollywood script, Jeremy Renner found himself in a perilous situation not on the silver screen, but in the snow-laden vicinity of his Reno, Nevada home.
The actor, celebrated for his portrayal of Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, became the victim of a harrowing accident involving his own snowplow.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning as Renner was engaged in clearing snow from around his vehicle, which a family member had been driving.
Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam provided details of the ordeal, noting the area had been blanketed with an additional three feet of snow atop the existing cover, courtesy of a recent storm.
Balaam highlighted that Renner was attempting to clear a private road, one not serviced by county snow removal efforts.
Utilizing a PistenBully plow, a hefty machine tipping the scales at over 14,000 pounds, Renner sought to free the car from its snowy trap.
However, a twist of fate saw the plow begin to move on its own, prompting Renner to try and regain control, an effort that tragically led to him being run over.
Neighbors quickly came to Renner’s aid, providing first aid until emergency responders, delayed by adverse weather conditions, could arrive some 40 minutes later.
The actor was subsequently airlifted to a nearby hospital where he was placed in intensive care.
That evening, Renner underwent surgery to address blunt chest trauma and several orthopedic injuries, as confirmed by his spokesperson.
Despite his dire circumstances, Renner managed to share a heartfelt message from his hospital bed Tuesday night.
Through a selfie that captured the gravity of his situation, Renner expressed his gratitude towards fans for their outpouring of support, albeit briefly mentioning his current inability to communicate at length due to his condition.
Sheriff Balaam took a moment to commend Renner for his community spirit, often taking it upon himself to clear roads following snowstorms, an act of kindness widely appreciated by his neighbors.
Renner, described as a “great neighbor” and a generous soul, has left a positive mark on his community, frequently undertaking good deeds quietly and without seeking recognition.
Renner’s engagement with his followers often includes glimpses into his life in the snowy environs near Lake Tahoe.
Not long ago, he shared an Instagram video showcasing his pre-winter preparations, an activity he seemed to thoroughly enjoy.
Aside from his real-life heroics, Renner is a respected figure in Hollywood, having earned Oscar nominations for his roles in “The Hurt Locker” and “The Town.” Fans also look forward to seeing more of his acting prowess in the upcoming second season of “Mayor of Kingstown” on Paramount.
